Our Story.
Past…Present…Future
Pleasant Grove Community Church.
In 1995, Pastor Gene Kern and his wife Elenor bought a house in the brand-new Sun City development. Hard to believe now, but back then Sun City was the only thing here. As he watched houses being built and new neighbors moving in, he became concerned about their eternal destinies and asked himself, “Who is going to take care of their spiritual needs?” God used that one question to lead Pastor Gene to launch Pleasant Grove Community Church.
Pastor Gene determined that this new church would be nondenominational, welcoming people from all walks of life. The building of strong relationships with neighbors was key to getting the church going. Prayer, study of the Bible, serving and sharing Jesus with others were also all foundational values in getting PGCC started.
Today, caring friendships, being good neighbors, prayer, learning more about Jesus and his love for us, and allowing Jesus to transform our lives continue to be the hallmarks of PGCC.
Because Sun City was the only thing that existed when PGCC was started, PGCC saw itself as a “church for Sun City.” We are still a church for Sun City, but now we are so much more. With the explosion of new construction and young families moving into the area, we are building on our roots of building relationships, having families gather in one another’s homes, and talking about Jesus as friends with no strings attached.
We invite you to come and find a church where you can make friends, learn, grow, serve and experience the difference Jesus makes.
